Attendance
Regular school attendance brings enormous benefits to individual pupils, their families, schools and the community as a whole. Without regular attendance, levels of attainment suffer and opportunities are missed to obtain maximum benefit from education.
Persistent absence and lateness will affect a child’s achievement and progress in school. Comprehensive research shows that there is a direct link between a child’s level of school attendance and their level of school attainment.
What is 'good attendance'?
There are 175 non-school days per year to spend on holidays, visits, shopping, appointments and family time. Did you know: a 2 week holiday in term time means the highest attendance your child can achieve is 94.7%?

As a parent it is your legal responsibility to ensure your child receives a suitable full-time education. It is your responsibility that your child attends school each day and is on time.
Children with attendance less than 96% are identified as a concern if absences are unauthorised.
Absence
We keep a record of your child’s attendance in school therefore if he/she is not well or has an unavoidable medical appointment please contact the school on 01962 732632 and speak to a member of staff or leave a message. Alternatively you can email admin@sunhill-inf.hants.sch.uk

Medical appointments and late arrivals
Being on time:
-
Sets positive patterns for the future.
-
Ensures your child is in school for their morning meeting where they can share their news
-
Enables them to go through the timetable for the day so they know what to expect
-
Leads to understanding that school is important and education is valuable.
Classroom doors open and children can enter between 8:45am - 8:55am.
What happens if a pupil is late?
All lateness is recorded and reported on your child’s attendance certificate. Persistent late arrivals will be required to meet with the Headteacher, Mrs Wilson and may result in Local Authority action.
Some things that help:
-
Help your child get everything ready the night before (e.g. PE kit, school uniform).
-
Allowing plenty of time to get to school.
-
Establish a good bedtime routine.
-
Make arrangements with neighbours, family or friends if you have problems getting your child to school.
-
Make sure your child has breakfast or arrives at school in time for breakfast club.
-
Make sure your child gets enough rest and is not distracted by too much time on the computer or watching TV.

If you need to take your child out of school for a medical appointment please ensure you sign him/her in and out at the main office. Likewise, if your child is late for school he/she must come to the main reception. This is for safety reasons as we need to have children registered in the case of a fire drill or emergency. If your child is going to arrive late and would like a school lunch please telephone the office by 9.30am to place the order.
